My name is Justine Recor, I am a WSET Diploma and a Certified Sommelier with more than 10 years of experience in the hospitality business. I love working in hospitality and I have a passion for learning about, sharing, and drinking wine. I enjoy the challenging nature of wine education, it provides a lens to learn about history, geography, geology, chemistry, sociology, anthropology, farming, and food culture. I can’t think of a better way to explore the world.

My ultimate goal is to make wine more approachable and less pretentious for the consumer market. while providing our guests and clients with high-quality and sustainable products they can feel good about purchasing. I aim to highlight producers who act as caretakers of the land by minimizing their environmental impact to the best of their abilities.

Cellar & Scholar will offer members of the community who wish to learn about wine a judgment-free environment to do so. For those who would like to leave the homework up to the experts, we’ll be a resource you can trust.

Cathy Hand

Owner | Certified Sommelier, WSET Diploma Candidate

My name is Cathy Hand, I am a Certified Sommelier and WSET Diploma Candidate. I fell in love with wine at at early age while working at a local winery, and started my wine education journey to become a savvier wine buyer. I continuued my education, alongside my daughter, with a new goal in mind; to quit my job in the tech industry and help others find their passion for wine.

After six years of intensive studying I passed my Certified Sommelier Exam through the court of Master Sommeliers and am a Diploma Candidate through the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. I’ve taken several notoriously grueling exams, a humbling experience, and finally feel confident in any wine shop, and with any wine menu. I realize that most people cannot commit years of studying to be comfortable – nor should they have to, all you need to know is your own taste buds! With my experience in database architecture and analysis, coupled with my knowledge of the wine world, I’ve created a way to personalize the standard wine club experience and make it something unique. I believe wine is a personal experience. We are here to learn your preferences and curate the perfect bottles for you, based on your interests, using our knowledge to deliver wines you will love.
